Look at all the encomia in the Hebrew scriptures about kings doing what is "yashar" (e.g., 2 Chronicles 24:2 - Yoash did "yashar" in the eyes of the Lord.)Joe in Australianoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3613525030683671127.post-54723877966782306982010-03-28T20:20:00.823-07:002010-03-28T20:20:00.823-07:00Rick, the translation is mine. Just a quick comment (I actually would have a few but I'll limit it to the one :-)...'ysr' in line 7 could actually be read as "destined"--rather than "good"--as it is closely related to 'sdq' in line 6. This word pair occurs in Ugaritic in Keret (KTU 1.14:I:12-13). Cyrus Gordon proposes it to mean (in Keret) something like "his lawful wife" and "his rightful bride" (Ugaritic Textbook 1998, pp.472-3 & see the comments in his grammar at 13.22). So in other words I wonder if a better rendering wouldn't be something like "...a legitimate king and a rightful king..."Rick Wadholm Jr.https://www.blogger.com/profile/16071320669354835388noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3613525030683671127.post-41830220689208280362010-03-28T19:00:51.831-07:002010-03-28T19:00:51.831-07:00thanks, karyn. that book will definitely be releva...thanks, karyn. that book will definitely be relevant for studying inscriptions like this one.Douglas Mangumhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15267532075493569019noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3613525030683671127.post-4692039741158059972010-03-28T16:26:36.904-07:002010-03-28T16:26:36.904-07:00You might be interested in this book (should be re...You might be interested in this book (should be released soon):
https://www.eisenbrauns.com/ECOM/_2WD15MM7W.HTM

KarynKarynhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04020689918951522804noreply@blogger.com
